WHAT IS MY QR CODE?
Students registered on the app will have a QR code which is visible on the app. You can use this QR code to be scanned into a university residence or to redeem food vouchers.
WHAT IS A DIGITAL WALLET?
Each student and merchant using the app will have a digital wallet associated with their account. You can view your wallet balance directly in the app.
HOW DO I SCAN INTO A DINING HALL AT A RESIDENCE?
Students can use the Pay & Connect app to gain entry into residence dining halls by having the scanner scan their QR code. You will only be permitted into meals that you are eligible to eat under your specific university dining plan.
HOW DO THE LUNCH VOUCHERS WORK?
Students who are eligible for lunch time meals under their university dining plan will have the option to request a food voucher to redeem for a meal on campus.
When you have been issued with a food voucher, the value of this voucher will be credited to your digital wallet.
HOW DO I GET ISSUED A FOOD VOUCHER?
Students can request a voucher directly through the Pay & Connect app, provided that this is done before the cut off time, which is set by the university. Alternatively, scanners can issue students a food voucher by scanning the student’s student card.
HOW DO I CANCEL A FOOD VOUCHER?
After requesting a food voucher, you will have the option to cancel that voucher. Your account will then be debited with this value. A scanner can also cancel the voucher by scanning your student card.
Vouchers can only be cancelled before the cut off time (which is set by the university), and cannot be cancelled if you have already spent part of the voucher.
HOW DO I SPEND THE VOUCHER?
Students can spend their food vouchers on campus by using their app to scan the merchant’s QR code.
When spending your voucher, you will be required to enter the amount that you would like to spend.
Merchants can also initiate payments from students by scanning the student’s QR code on their app, or scanning the student’s student card.
HOW LONG DO THE VOUCHERS LAST?
Voucher expire at the end of each month.
WHAT HAPPENS IF SYSTEMS ARE DOWN (E.G. THROUGH LOAD-SHEDDING)?
When systems are down temporarily, emergency food paper-based food vouchers will be issued.
CAN ANYONE AT UCT USE PAY & CONNECT TO PAY FOR MEALS ON CAMPUS?
No, at this stage it is only for students in residences.
